Prime Minister Assures Public of Food and Energy Security for Thailand

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has reassured the public that Thailand remains strong in food and energy security, emphasizing that citizens should go about their daily lives as normal without worrying about shortages of food or goods.

During the televised program “Talk with the Anutin Cabinet” on the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT) on 7 November 2026, Prime Minister Anutin clarified that the recent discussions regarding 72-hour emergency prep kits do not signal that the country is entering a state of war or facing food scarcity. He urged the public to maintain their daily routines, saying that Thailand is a fully integrated food producer and the Government will never leave any family stranded in a food crisis.

The Prime Minister cited the country's robust food production capabilities as a core strength that could also bolster the food security of its trading partners.

Regarding energy, he stated that Thailand faced no issues with its energy supply as a result of the conflict in the Middle East, since the country sources its energy from diverse global suppliers. The Government has cut the excise tax on B20 biodiesel to ease the cost of living. This has increased B20 consumption to nine million liters per day, reducing crude oil imports and directly boosting income for local palm farmers. The Government aims to scale up biodiesel usage to 20 million liters per day, which could save nearly 100 billion baht annually in energy import costs.

The Prime Minister highlighted efforts to join the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and leverage the Board of Investment (BOI)’s “Thailand FastPass” scheme to attract foreign direct investment. He revealed that Google plans to expand its investments in Thailand, driven by local talent and infrastructure.

Addressing modern technology – particularly artificial intelligence (AI) – he stressed that Thailand must manage AI integration to safeguard jobs, urging foreign investors to hire locally and transfer technical skills to the Thai workforce.

The Prime Minister noted that several investors plan to commit to multi-phase, long-term expansions, reflecting strong confidence in Thailand's stability and infrastructure. Moving forward, the key challenge is to maintain this confidence and avoid missteps to retain a competitive edge in the global economy.

He expressed confidence that Thailand's robust food, energy, and infrastructure readiness will be crucial in navigating global volatility and turning risks into opportunities for sustainable growth.
