Dongguan, China - Huawei Technologies recently hosted a momentous event in Dongguan, welcoming Thai representatives and over 30 media delegates from Mekong River countries to the Songshan Lake Science and Technology Industrial Park. The visit, organized as part of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Media Workshop by People’s Daily, aimed to showcase Huawei's innovative education solutions and foster collaboration among countries in the Mekong region.
The Songshan Lake Science and Technology Industrial Park, established in 2004, stands as a national high-tech industrial development zone in the heart of Dongguan City. Spanning a vast area of 72 square kilometers, the park seamlessly combines a freshwater lake and extensive ecological green spaces, creating an exemplary environment where nature and human progress thrive in harmony.
During the visit, Mr. Sheldon Wang, Vice President of Enterprise Business at Huawei Technologies (Thailand), unveiled the remarkable progress made by Mekong River countries, with a particular focus on Thailand, in adopting Huawei's cutting-edge technology to revolutionize their education systems.
One exceptional example of this transformation is Thailand's Srinakharinwirot University (SWU), which embarked on a journey to become an "Innovative University" by upgrading its digital infrastructure. Founded in 1949, SWU has long been recognized for its dedication to teacher training and the cultivation of graduates who contribute to Thailand's development.
Recognizing the crucial role of advanced technology in education, SWU embarked on an ambitious project to upgrade its information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure and digital systems. The existing infrastructure faced challenges such as limited bandwidth, a lack of centralized authentication and access management, unreliable wireless network coverage, and outdated monitoring systems. Huawei proposed a comprehensive transformation roadmap to address these limitations.
The first phase of the transformation focused on expanding Wi-Fi coverage across SWU's campuses, with a particular emphasis on the College of Social Communication Innovation (COSCI). The second phase introduced virtual reality (VR) technology in classrooms, enabling immersive and interactive learning experiences. Additionally, the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) applications, managed from a centralized command center, ensured a safe and secure campus environment.
Huawei's expertise has resulted in a significant enhancement of SWU's ICT infrastructure. The deployment of Huawei Cloud Campus, alongside the High-Speed Core Switch, has delivered a remarkable 20-fold increase in bandwidth, enabling seamless connectivity throughout the campus. Furthermore, the upgrade introduced a cutting-edge monitoring system, a stable wireless network with increased speed, and enhanced security measures.
SWU's collaboration with Huawei has positioned the university as a leader in digital transformation within the education sector. The successful implementation of Huawei's Intelligent Multi-Service Network Solution for Higher Education has set a benchmark for other Thai universities, offering a model for educational institutions across the Mekong region.
As Huawei continues to lead the charge in the digital landscape, the showcase of its cutting-edge education solutions at the Songshan Lake Science and Technology Industrial Park represents a significant milestone in Lancang-Mekong cooperation. This event paves the way for a new era of digital education, fostering collaboration and inspiring progress among countries in the Mekong region.
