Thailand and Sweden Sign Strategic Partnership

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Maris Sangiampongsa signed the Thailand-Sweden Strategic Partnership on 26 August 2025 during his official visit to Sweden on 24-26 August 2025. Representing Sweden in signing the Strategic Partnership was Ms. Maria Malmer Stenergard, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Strategic Partnership underscores the shared political will of both countries to broaden collaboration in areas of mutual interest. The Partnership establishes a framework for strategic political dialogue and enhanced cooperation in trade and investment, defense, green transition, innovation, education, and the promotion of closer people-to-people ties.

On this occasion, Minister Maris had a bilateral meeting over working lunch with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden. Both sides discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation in key areas, such as defense technology, innovation, startups, sustainable forestry, and green energy transition.

The discussions also covered avenues to expand trade and investment, including the timely conclusion of the Thailand-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, Sweden’s support for Thailand’s accession to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the waiver of visa for Thai ordinary passport holders entering the Schengen area, as well as an exchange of views on regional and global issues.
