Thailand and the Republic of Korea have discussed and explored ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in culture and arts, including exchanges of artists, art exhibitions, museums, cultural heritage, and archives.
Mr. Nikorndej Balankura, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and Ms. Seo Bihn, Director-General for Public Diplomacy and Cultural Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, co-chaired the first Meeting of the Korea-Thailand Joint Cultural Committee (JCC).
The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea in Seoul, Republic of Korea, on 5 September 2025. Thai relevant agencies participating in the meeting included the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Office of Commercial Affairs in Seoul, and the Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization).
Both sides also discussed cooperation in education, including arrangement of workshops and exchange programs, especially in the field of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), Korean language and studies in Thailand, and Thai language and studies in Korea.
They will promote cooperation in the creative economy, including films and series, music, games, animations, characters, e-books, webtoons, and design, as well as tourism and journalist and people-to-people exchanges. Their discussions on cooperation in sports and e-sports involved athletes training, sending athletes to participate in sport events in another countries, and promotion of Taekwondo and Muay Thai.
The Korea-Thailand JCC was officially established during the official visit of the Foreign Minister of Thailand to the Republic of Korea on 1-2 August 2024, in line with the Joint Action Plan toward Strengthening Strategic Partnership between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Republic of Korea (2022-2027) in the areas of people-to-people exchange and culture.
On the same day, Mr. Nikorndej met Mr. Lee Jaewoong, Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Affairs, to exchange views, experiences, and best practices on countering disinformation and advancing strategic communications. Both sides shared their experiences and challenges of the work of Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ s spokespersons in the digital era in which misinformation and disinformation can be easily and widely disseminated.
