Thailand and Kazakhstan to Elevate All Levels of Bilateral Relations and Cooperation

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow and President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev have reaffirmed their commitments to promoting and elevating bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries in all aspects.

The Deputy Prime Minister paid a courtesy call on the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the Presidential Residence on 25 June 2026, during his official visit to Kazakhstan from 24 to 27 June at the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev.

Both sides discussed opportunities to further strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in the economic cooperation. This includes enhancing trade value, expanding investment, and Thailand’s readiness to commence negotiations for Thailand–Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Free Trade Agreement, which would help promote trade, with Thailand serving as a gateway to ASEAN and Kazakhstan as a gateway to Central Asia. 

The discussion also covered leveraging logistics opportunities along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). Thailand also led a delegation of private sector representatives to meet with more than 80 Kazakh companies for business meeting and matching.

On the same day, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand also met the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan and participated in a plenary meeting to discuss cooperation across a wide range of cooperation.

The discussions focused on strengthening political and economic cooperation, enhancing trade value and investment, and Thailand’s readiness to commence negotiations on the Thailand–EAEU Free Trade Agreement.

Both sides also emphasized the importance of advancing people-to-people connectivity, tourism, cooperation in medical and public health sector, food security, energy, rare minerals, as well as opportunities to expand cooperation in multilateral and regional frameworks, including the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), and ASEAN.

On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan signed a Joint Action Plan to promote closer cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries and outline preparations for the celebration of the 35th Anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2027.

Thailand and Kazakhstan enjoy amicable relations. Kazakhstan is Thailand’s largest trading partner and important source of tourists from Central Asia, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.
