Australian Businesses Urged to Invest More in Thailand, Connecting with ASEAN

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has urged Australia’s private sector to invest more in Thailand, which is a domestic market of 66 million people and serves as a gateway to an ASEAN market of almost 700 million people.

The Prime Minister on 18 August delivered an address at the opening of the “Thailand-Australia Investment and Business Partnership Reception” in Sydney, as part of his official visit to Australia from 17 to 20 August. The reception was organized by the Office of the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) to explore trade and investment opportunities between the Thai and Australian private sectors.

Following his discussions with representatives of the Australian private sector, he said that Australian businesses have strong confidence in Thailand’s stability and potential and regard Thailand as a stable investment hub.

The Prime Minister cited the BOI’s “Thailand FastPass” policy as a major factor to help resolve business issues and unlock bottlenecks for investors. This policy has encouraged foreign business operators to respond positively and view Thailand as a key investment destination.

Moreover, he said, the investor confidence also stems from Thailand’s political security and stability, as well as its logistics readiness. He quoted a BOI report stating that, during the first half of 2026, Thailand’s total investment-promotion applications reached 1.47 trillion baht, equivalent to about A$60 billion.

The Prime Minister also said that Australia currently had a high demand for jet fuel, while Thailand had a surplus of jet fuel beyond domestic requirements. If the Australian government expresses its intention, the Thai government is ready to consider unlocking relevant regulations to pave the way for jet fuel exports to Australia. This will not only meet Australia's demand but also provide an opportunity to increase Thailand’s export value and generate income for the country.
