Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow delivered a keynote address on 24 September, sharing Thailand’s vision at the Asia Society, New York, during the High-level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In his keynote address presenting Thailand's vision, titled "ASEAN – Shaping the Course of an Asian Century," the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the continued important role of ASEAN in promoting trust and confidence, peace, and stability in the region, rule-based international order, and economic connectivity among ASEAN Member States and with partner countries, which has contributed to Asia's rise.

In this regard, he outlined the "3R" vision for strengthening ASEAN, namely (1) Regionalism – deepening ASEAN integration and aligning national interests with regional interests, (2) Resilience – strengthening ability to address new situations and transboundary challenges, while making its mechanisms more effective and responsive to evolving circumstances, and (3) Relevance – maintaining ASEAN's leading role at regional and international levels and promoting tangible cooperation to advance shared interests such as energy connectivity, supply chains resilience, and combating transnational crime, among others.

During the discussion moderated by Mr. Daniel Russel, Asia Society Distinguished Fellow, and former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, the Deputy Prime Minister also shared Thailand's views on geopolitics and competition among major powers, as well as developments in the region, including the situation in Myanmar and Thailand–Cambodia relations.

On the same day, the Deputy Prime Minister joined Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in his meeting with Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, The Prime Minister and the Secretary General of the United Nations welcomed the close relations between Thailand and the United Nations and on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Thailand’s membership in the United Nations. 

The Secretary-General expressed appreciation for Thailand’s constructive role and longstanding support for the work of the United Nations, especially as the host country of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and various UN entities in Thailand. The Prime Minister expressed views regarding the transparent and fair selection process for the next United Nations Secretary-General.  

Both sides also discussed the situation between Thailand and Cambodia and the situation in Myanmar. The Prime Minister affirmed Thailand’s commitment to promoting peace and stability through peaceful conflict resolution within the framework of international law.
