Betong District, Yala Province, has welcomed numerous Thai and Malaysian tourists coming to view the beautiful Aiyoeweng sea of clouds, which has become a new attraction in the deep South of Thailand.
The Aiyoeweng sea of clouds is located on Khao Microwave in Aiyoeweng Subdistrict. The weather at the top of this mountain is cool, and from here, visitors will be able to see the sea of fog all year round, as well as the scenery of Hala-Bala Forest and Bang Lang Dam.
There are three scenic viewpoints, which are 2,038 feet above sea level.
The first viewpoint is at the Aiyoeweng Skywalk, recognized as the longest skywalk in ASEAN. It is 45 meters high and stretches about 63 meters from the base. There is also an elevator to aid seniors and people with disabilities.
The second viewpoint is the original point of the Aiyoeweng sea of mist. It is in the hilltop area near the telephone transmission tower and the Aiyoeweng Skywalk. This place is a concrete viewing balcony with two floors and a smaller path leading to the open ridge below.
The third viewpoint is on the side of the road on the way up the hill. There is a car park on the roadside and several restaurants are available there. Visitors may appreciate beautiful scenery at several spots along an observation deck.
Apart from promoting local tourism, the Aiyoeweng Subdistrict Administrative Organization, meanwhile, has launched a project to survey and collect local plant varieties in order to develop knowledge about natural resource management for reforestation, the creation of forest plantations, and the planting of economic crops.
Under this project, local people, especially the younger generation, will be encouraged to expand networks for natural resource conservation and environmental rehabilitation. The project also seeks to create a database of natural resources in Aiyoeweng Subdistrict, involving both plant genetics and knowledge from “local wisemen” for use in natural resource conservation and protection.
