Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has emphasized unified operations in the same direction by all relevant agencies in tackling the situation in the southern border provinces.
The Prime Minister chaired a meeting of heads of agencies responsible for addressing the situation in the deep South. Organized by the Office of the National Security Council at Government House on 22 October 2026, the meeting was also conducted online.
He stated that although unrest in the deep South appears to be declining, violent incidents persist, affecting national security, public safety, property, and local officials. Furthermore, these incidents have posed major obstacles to southern development.
The meeting discussed guidelines and joint operations to deal effectively with problems in the southern border provinces in the 2027 fiscal year. Key emphasis was placed on peacebuilding and public safety, alongside improving the quality of life, thereby enabling local residents to live and conduct business securely and in a stable manner.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed that the peace dialogue on the southern situation would continue, saying that the use of violence to address problems in the deep South is unacceptable. Talks with Malaysia will also continue to enhance cooperation in supporting peacebuilding in the southern border provinces.
Previously, on 20 October in Pattani Province, a peacebuilding plan for the southern border provinces in the 2027 fiscal year was discussed at a meeting, chaired by Fourth Army Area Commander Lt. Gen. Chakrit Ucharatana. The meeting agreed to continue to adopt King Rama IX’s royal advice to “understand, reach out, and develop” for peacebuilding in the southern border provinces, while reducing conditions that might lead to conflicts and violence.
Discussions also focused on multicultural coexistence, with people as the center, and the building of safe areas for lasting peace in the deep South.
