In reaction to recent reports that Chinese nationals have engaged in illegal economic activities in Thailand, the People's Republic of China Embassy in Thailand recently released a note on its Facebook page. The embassy claims that the Chinese government has consistently demanded that Chinese nationals and Chinese businesses operating outside of China respect and uphold the laws and traditions of the nation or territory in which they live, conduct lawful businesses, and give back to the community in which they operate. Most Chinese people have complied with these requests up until now. Furthermore, Thailand's economy has greatly benefited from the efforts of Chinese citizens and businesses there. It is always clear that they participate in charitable work. Nevertheless, the Chinese government will support the Thai authorities in punishing the atrocities committed by some Chinese people in Thailand. It is important to clarify that not all Chinese behaviors and Chinese businesses in Thailand are improper; rather, only some groups of Chinese people engage in such behavior. It is absurd to use these concerns as evidence against trade and economic cooperation. (Source: Thai PBS)
