Thailand spends 444 billion baht fighting COVID-19 pandemic

The Ministry of Public Health disclosed that Thailand spent a total of 444 billion baht on public health during the three-year COVID-19 pandemic. In the ministry's study, the cost of diagnosing and treating COVID-19 patients accounted for more than half of the whole expense, or 260 billion baht. An internal assessment shows that the cost of vaccine purchase and distribution was around 78 billion baht. Also, during the epidemic, the government spent 57.5 billion baht on victim compensation and incentives for medical staff. From 2020 to 2022, the government covered all citizens' medical expenses and immunization costs. The majority of the financing came from the annual budget. Loans totaling 1.5 trillion baht were additionally made to support economic expansion and pay for some urgent public health initiatives.
