More than 1 million Chinese visit Thailand in 2023 until now

Anucha Burapachaisri, the government's spokesperson, stated that one million Chinese visitors arrived in Thailand between January and 18 May as a result of China's reopening of its border. The government anticipates that this year's goal of five million Chinese visitors will be reached, with expenditures of US$13.18 billion. Only over 274,000 Chinese visitors came to the country in 2018, down from 11 million (or about 28%) of the total in pre-pandemic 2019. Prior to this, the government reported that from January to mid-May, there were 9.47 million overall international tourist arrivals, down from a total of 11.15 million in 2022.
