Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, Minister of Tourism and Sports, announced that the festival aims to place Songkran among the top 10 global festivals.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has scheduled the Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2024 for April 11th-15th, at Ratchadamnoen Avenue and Sanam Luang ceremonial ground in Bangkok.
The event will showcase the beauty of Thai Songkran traditions with over 20 parade floats, focusing on presenting the uniqueness of Songkran traditions and Thailand's Soft Power through cultural innovation and creativity.
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool mentioned that the festival will highlight Thai Songkran content and be promoted on “iQIYI”, a popular streaming platform in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and ASEAN countries. It will also invite celebrities and influencers from abroad to experience Thai tourism during Songkran.
TAT estimates that from April 12th to 16th, the event will generate approximately 24.42 billion baht in revenue, attracting around 510,000 international tourists.
Furthermore, a 21-day Songkran festival organized across the country, ending on April 21st, is expected to generate over 10 billion baht in additional income for Thailand.
