Thailand has taken a major step towards workplace equality with the introduction of a toolkit designed to support LGBTQ+ inclusivity in businesses. This comes shortly after the country's landmark enactment of the same-sex marriage law, illustrating a broad commitment to equality. Prime Minister’s Office Minister Jiraporn Sindhuprai has been at the helm of promoting these initiatives.
The toolkit was developed through a collaborative effort between the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Embassy of Canada in Thailand, the Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University, and Workplace Pride. The move seeks to provide practical guidance to organizations on creating inclusive environments that support diversity, believed to be a driver of economic growth and social equity.
During a recent gathering, Minister Jiraporn noted that the toolkit is specifically adapted to the Thai context, which is a significant step towards building an equitable society. The guide covers essential aspects of workplace inclusivity, such as creating business cases for LGBTQ+ inclusion, developing fair human resources policies, implementing training programs for awareness and behavioral change, and providing self-assessment guidelines for companies.
The initiative also aligns with ongoing governmental efforts to mitigate disparities and stigmatization faced by the LGBTQ+ community, especially in the workplace. With 50% of employment in Thailand within the private sector, the toolkit is expected to have a considerable impact on promoting equal treatment and opportunities across the country.
