Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Leads Thailand's Delegation at 46th ASEAN on Agriculture and Forestry Meeting

In her capacity as the head of Thailand's ministerial delegation (AMAF Leader), Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Narumon Pinyosinwat participated in the 46th Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF).

During the meeting, the Thai delegation reviewed the progress made by ASEAN member states in cooperation related to food, agriculture, and forestry, with a focus on promoting sustainable agricultural practices. Key topics included reducing the use of hazardous chemicals and the burning of agricultural residues, as well as the sustainable management of soil and water resources.

The Thai delegation emphasized the importance of addressing air pollution, particularly the issue of PM 2.5 dust, which adversely affects the health of populations throughout the ASEAN region. Thailand is implementing sustainable practices to reduce agricultural burning and is in the process of establishing agricultural product standards. One such initiative involves the development of Good Agricultural Practices for Zero Burning Maize, aimed at elevating these practices to mandatory standards that will serve as conditions for future agricultural imports.

Additionally, Thailand is supporting sustainable agricultural product standards and has developed general standards covering palm oil, shrimp, and rice. The Thai delegation urged ASEAN member states to prioritize sustainable agricultural practices and to collaborate on establishing sustainable agricultural standards or guidelines within the region.
