Bangkok's Yaowarat Road has been transformed into a dazzling display of lights for the Chinese New Year Festival 2025, running until February 9. Organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the event celebrates the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China under the theme “Ignite Your Senses, Embrace Our Two Cultures.” The lighting displays, which stretch from the Royal Jubilee Gate at Odeon Circle to Chaloem Buri Intersection, shine from 6:00 p.m. to midnight daily.
The opening ceremony, held yesterday (Jan 19) at Chinatown’s Royal Jubilee Gate, was attended by high-ranking officials from the TAT, representatives from the Chinese Embassy, and Bangkok administrators. The street’s decorations include red and gold lighting symbolizing prosperity and success, as well as a striking red snake-themed arch and floral light installations.
In addition to Yaowarat's festivities, TAT will host Chinese New Year celebrations at CentralWorld from January 28 to February 2. The event will feature illuminated art installations, such as a giant snake sculpture and a statue of Guan Yin, along with miniature replicas of notable Chinese communities in Thailand. Interactive activities, including traditional Chinese calligraphy and Khon mask painting, will allow visitors to experience cultural traditions.
The CentralWorld festivities will also include over 30 food stalls and performances by more than 80 Chinese and Thai artists. Popular Thai bands such as Tilly Birds, MEAN, and Whal & Dolph will perform alongside cultural shows.
