The Thai government is exploring the feasibility of hosting a Formula One (F1) race, positioning Thailand as a premier motorsport destination.
Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula One Group, recently met with Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to discuss Thailand’s potential as an F1 host. Also present were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Suriya Jungrungreangkit and Minister of Tourism and Sports Sorawong Thienthong. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to study all aspects of hosting the event, highlighting the government’s commitment to making the country a key venue for global sporting events.
Domenicali emphasized Thailand’s strong motorsport fan base and the economic and tourism benefits that F1 could bring. He noted that Formula One Group is prepared to work closely with the Thai government to assess infrastructure, investment requirements, and potential race locations.
Both sides agreed to continue discussions on leveraging F1 as a tourism and cultural driver. The F1 executive noted that each host country integrates local culture into race events and that Thailand’s unique heritage, hospitality, and growing motorsport community would make it an attractive addition to the F1 calendar.
With F1’s expanding global audience of 1.61 million viewers, the Thai government is now evaluating suitable race locations, investment feasibility, and public engagement strategies to ensure a successful bid.
