Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has stated that he would receive a comprehensive security briefing during a National Security Council (NSC) meeting, following reports of weapons supplies to Cambodia ahead of recent clashes along the Thai–Cambodian border. The meeting will include NSC members and senior representatives from all branches of the armed forces.
Anutin stressed that Thailand remains fully aware of the situation and prepared for any developments, citing the government’s continuous approval of defense budgets as evidence of readiness during periods of tension with Cambodia.
The agenda for the NSC session includes appointing Thailand’s chair for the Thai–Cambodian Joint Boundary Commission, reviewing the national defense posture, reaffirming sovereignty, and discussing dialogue frameworks intended to reduce the risks of escalation while protecting Thai interests.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed his determination to restore peace quickly and confirmed plans to travel to Surin province tomorrow (Oct 3) to inspect the border situation in person. The visit provides direct oversight and ensures coordination between military and civilian operations.
Anutin added that the meeting will also explore the possibility of establishing a framework for peace talks in Thailand’s southern border provinces, noting that further details will be shared once discussions are concluded.
