Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow recently held talks with Iran’s ambassador to seek assistance in locating three Thai crew members missing from a vessel in the Middle East and to ensure safe passage for Thai ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
Minister Sihasak raised concerns over the situation involving the vessel Mayuree Naree and called for support from Iranian naval authorities in search-and-rescue efforts. He also sought assurances for the safe transit of Thai commercial vessels through the strategic waterway.
Iran’s ambassador to Thailand, Nassereddin Heidari, said the requests had been forwarded to relevant authorities and indicated readiness to assist. He also conveyed support for safe passage for Thai vessels, describing Thailand as a friendly country, and said further updates would be provided after coordination with Iranian agencies.
During the meeting, the Thai side reiterated the need for dialogue and diplomatic efforts to ease tensions in the region. The Iranian ambassador, in return, called on Thailand and ASEAN countries to encourage all parties involved to work toward ending the ongoing conflict.
