Minister of Public Health Pattana Promphat and senior executives visited Chiang Mai on April 20, 2026, to oversee the PM2.5 haze situation. The visit aimed to use real-time field data to strengthen proactive health measures, especially for vulnerable groups, guided by the principle that every citizen’s health is paramount.
The Minister stated that this visit was a strategic effort to analyze health surveillance and previous field data, including reports from April 8, 2026. The Minister instructed the Department of Health and related agencies to intensify efforts to establish "Safety Zones" in affected areas.
A key highlight was the inspection of the "Positive Pressure Dust-Free Room" at the Samran Rat Sub-district Child Development Center in Doi Saket District. Developed by the Department of Health and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), this system expels contaminated air and circulates filtered, clean air throughout the building. This innovation allows young children, a high-risk group, to learn and grow in a safe environment.
The Minister also introduced the "Anti-Dust Mosquito Net," designed for bedbound patients, to communities in the area. These specialized nets, which serve as personal PM2.5 Safety Zones, are suitable for daily use, enabling patients who cannot relocate to breathe cleaner air and reduce long-term respiratory risks.
The Ministry of Public Health and the Department of Health reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing operations to restore public confidence and protect the well-being of northern residents and all Thais during this air quality crisis.
