Bangkok and Tokyo are expanding cooperation through a reciprocal tourism promotion campaign that showcases both cities across major public transportation networks and digital advertising platforms. The project is expected to help increase tourism awareness while encouraging closer ties between the two Asian capitals.

Throughout the first half of June, Bangkok’s tourism campaign is being displayed at several high-traffic locations in Tokyo, including Shimbashi, Hibiya, and Shinjuku stations, as well as on advertising media inside Toei Subway trains. The campaign introduces Tokyo residents and visitors to attractions and experiences available in the Thai capital.

Tokyo’s tourism campaign is, at the same time, being promoted across Bangkok through BTS Skytrain pillar LED displays, more than 100 Smart Bus Shelter screens, BMA Q screens at all 50 district offices, and the city's official social media channels. The campaign gives Bangkok residents and visitors greater exposure to Tokyo’s tourism offerings.

The exchange is being conducted through a partnership between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, showcasing the distinct identities of both cities while promoting tourism and expanding cooperation between Bangkok and Tokyo.

Labour Minister Julapun Amornvivat has participated in a meeting with International Organization for Migration (IOM) Director General Amy Pope in Geneva to discuss cooperation on migrant labor management and worker protection. The meeting, taking place on the sidelines of the 114th International Labor Conference, included senior officials from the Thai government.

Julapun, during the discussions, detailed Thailand’s approach to promoting legal and transparent migration channels. Thailand currently manages labor migration through agreements with Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam, allowing migrant workers to enter and work in the country through regulated processes intended to reduce the risk of exploitation and abuse.

The talks also covered labor rights, wages, welfare, occupational safety, and access to legal protections. Thai officials said more than 1.5 million migrant workers from Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar are enrolled in Thailand’s social security system. Workforce development was another topic, with both sides discussing ways to improve skills and productivity to meet changing labor market demands.

Thailand and the IOM later exchanged views on future cooperation in workforce training, skills certification, labor market preparedness, protection of vulnerable workers, and efforts to combat forced labor and human trafficking. Julapun then extended an invitation to the IOM to attend the opening ceremony of the 29th ASEAN Labor Ministers Meeting, which Thailand will host in Bangkok in August 2026.

The Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), under the Ministry of Commerce, led Thai geographical indication (GI) producers on a trade mission to Shanghai, China, to expand export opportunities and improve market access for premium Thai agricultural products.

A key highlight was a business matching event with over 16 Chinese fruit importers at Huizhan Fruit Wholesale Market, a major distribution hub in Eastern China with annual trade exceeding 100 billion baht.

During the mission, producers from Sisaket Volcano Durian and Huizhan Market signed a memorandum of understanding to purchase in advance 500 tons of durian. The delegation also showcased GI products from six provinces in Thailand.

Thailand has over 260 registered GI products, generating more than 116 billion baht in economic value. Fruit products represent about 45 percent of all registered GI goods. Ongoing Chinese demand for quality, safety, and traceability continues to drive growth opportunities for Thailand’s GI sector.

The delegation met with Huawei Technologies to explore the use of artificial intelligence, cloud systems, and digital innovations to strengthen Thailand’s intellectual property administration. Discussions focused on improving trademark and patent examination processes and learning from Huawei’s experience in leveraging intellectual property for innovation and business growth.

Huawei is a leading example of innovation-driven growth, allocating 21.8% of its annual revenue to research and development, employing over 114,000 R&D personnel, and holding more than 165,000 patents worldwide.

The government has clarified that Thailand’s participation in processes under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) regarding overlapping maritime claims with Cambodia does not involve negotiations on a joint development area or resource-sharing arrangements.

Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhanadirek stated that the process is limited to discussions on maritime boundary delimitation under international law, with the aim of addressing differing views on maritime boundaries between the two countries.

She emphasized that participating in UNCLOS mechanisms does not indicate Thailand’s acceptance of any claims by the other party. Instead, it demonstrates Thailand’s commitment to a transparent, fact-based, and legal process within an internationally recognized framework.

The government reiterated that all actions will be taken with caution and in close coordination with relevant agencies to fully protect Thailand’s national interests.

The spokesperson also urged the public to remain confident that the government will not take any action that could affect Thailand’s sovereignty and will continue to uphold the country’s interests throughout the process.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has partnered with the Royal Thai Embassy in The Hague and Central Group to launch the Amazing Thailand Fest 2026 under the theme "The Wholesome Taste of Thai" at the de Bijenkorf department store in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from June 3 to June 16, 2026.

Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi presided over the official opening ceremony on June 5, 2026. Building on the success of a similar event in Berlin last March, the initiative highlights authentic Thai culinary heritage and creative tourism promotions to attract European travelers. During the event, Her Royal Highness demonstrated how to prepare traditional, health-conscious Thai dishes that highlight the medicinal benefits of local ingredients such as ginger, kaffir lime leaves, and lemongrass.

TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool stated that the festival leverages gastronomy tourism to inspire travel to Thailand and reinforce its reputation as a world-class culinary destination. The campaign includes cultural window displays featuring Rattanakosin-era cuisine, a traditional riverside Thai house overlooking Wat Arun, live cultural performances, and culinary demonstrations on the department store’s fifth floor.

Private sector partners, including Blue Elephant Bangkok, Thai Airways International, the Office of Agricultural Affairs to the European Union, and several travel agencies, also participated to showcase Thai tourism products.

The Netherlands is among the top ten European source markets for Thailand. From January 1 to May 31, 2026, Thailand welcomed 113,878 Dutch tourists, with Bangkok, Surat Thani, Krabi, Chiang Mai, and Phuket as the most popular destinations. TAT projects total Dutch arrivals will reach 259,455 by the end of 2026.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has introduced new rules governing the carriage of lithium batteries and power banks on aircraft, tightening safety requirements in line with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

Under CAAT Regulation No. 122 on the Criteria, Procedures, and Conditions for Carrying Lithium Batteries on Aircraft, power banks may only be carried in cabin baggage and are strictly prohibited in checked luggage. Power banks with a capacity of up to 100 watt-hours (Wh), or approximately 20,000 mAh, are permitted, while those exceeding 100 Wh but not 160 Wh require prior airline approval. Each passenger may carry a maximum of two power banks.

The regulation also bans charging power banks on an aircraft or using them to charge mobile phones and other electronic devices during a flight. Power banks may not be stored in overhead compartments and must instead be kept in easily accessible locations, such as a seat pocket, under the seat in front, or on the passenger’s person. Devices without a clearly displayed energy rating or with unverifiable specifications are also prohibited. Passengers are required to take precautions against short circuits by using original packaging or protective cases.

CAAT said the new requirements follow a number of lithium battery-related incidents reported by airlines in Thailand and overseas in recent years, including cases involving cabin smoke, onboard fires, emergency landings, and evacuations. The authority urged travelers to review airline requirements before departure and comply with the regulations to help ensure the safety of passengers, crew members, and flight operations.
