Extension of Emergency Situation Declaration for Another Month

29 October 2020 (Readers 6216)

The Cabinet, during its meeting on 28 October 2020, approved the extension of the period of the enforcement of the Declaration of an Emergency Situation in all areas of the Kingdom for another month, from 1 to 30 November 2020.

The decision was made following a proposal by the Office of the National Security Council in order to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

According to the Office of the National Security Council, as the coordinating office of the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), the global situation of the COVID-19 outbreak remains severe in many parts of the world.

Thailands neighbors, Myanmar and Malaysia, have been hit by a second wave of COVID-19. Many groups of foreigners have also been allowed to enter the Kingdom. Thailand, therefore, needs to closely monitor the situation.

Moreover, mass gatherings of people for political protests in the country could also increase the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

The CCSA reported on 28 October 2020 that the total number of cumulative COVID-19 infections in Thailand was 3,759, with 3,561 recoveries, and 139 are still in hospital. The number of deaths remained unchanged at 59.
