HM the King Gives His Personal Funds to Improve Medical Services in Prisons

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua has given 128 million baht from his personal funds to support the second phase of the Department of Corrections project to improve medical services for inmates in 19 prisons nationwide.

According to the Department of Corrections, the project "Doing Good Deeds for the Nation, the Religion, and the Monarchy was initiated by His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen, who realize that physical and mental health is important to the peoples quality of life, with no exception for that of inmates.

Their Majesties wanted to see inmates have access to health services equal to those received by the general public outside prisons. Therefore, it is important that health services at prisons be improved and inmates be provided with knowledge on health care.

In the first phase of the project, which began on 28 December 2019, His Majesty the King contributed 217 million baht to the project in order to purchase 756 items of medical equipment and hardware for 25 prisons.

In the second phase later this year, the amount of 128 million baht given by His Majesty will be used to buy medical equipment for 19 prisons and their service hospitals in various parts of the country.
