HM the King Donates Biosafety and Express Analysis Mobile Units to Fight COVID-19

15 April 2021 (Readers 829)

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua has donated biosafety mobile units and express analysis mobile units to the Ministry of Public Health to cope with the COVID-19 crisis.

His Majesty the King on 30 April 2020 was presented with the first biosafety mobile unit by Professor Dr. Vip Viprakasit from the Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, as a prototype to collect COVID-19 test specimens. He donated the unit to the Ministry of Public Health, which began to use it on 2 May 2020 in Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima.

Later, on 6 July 2020, His Majesty donated 12 additional biosafety mobile units for the Ministry of Public Health to use in 12 health zones across the country, including Bangkok.

Each unit is equipped with public health personnel and necessary equipment, such as a temperature control system, an air filter system, a rapid antibody test kit, and a positive pressure and volume-controlled ventilation system.

Apart from reducing medical costs, biosafety mobile units have increased the efficiency of health personnel in COVID-19 active case finding among high-risk groups. They have so far offered services for hundreds of thousands of people.

On 2 February 2021, His Majesty the King donated seven additional biosafety mobile units, bringing the total number of royally granted biosafety mobile units to 20, which were built with His Majestys personal fund of 26.9 million baht. Out of the 20 units, three were developed with cameras for face recognition among foreign workers and with vaccine storage to provide vaccination for the people.

As for the express analysis mobile unit, His Majesty in November 2020 asked the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, to build a prototype for active COVID-19 testing that can deliver the result within two hours.

The express analysis mobile unit can be used together with a biosafety mobile unit to provide a one-stop service. It was used for the first time on 22 January 2021 in Bangkok, Samut Sakhon, and Pathum Thani.

As of 18 March 2021, His Majesty the King has donated altogether five express analysis mobile units, built with His Majestys personal funds for the Ministry of Public Health, to enable them to effectively contain the spread of COVID-19 for the safety of the people.
