Activities and Projects in Honor of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn

The Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office will organize a special exhibition in honor of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn from 1 to 8 April 2015.

The exhibition, which will be held at Siam Paragon Shopping Mall in Bangkok, is meant to commemorate the 60thbirthday anniversary of Her Royal Highness on 2 April 2015.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on 23 March 2015 chaired a meeting of the National Commission on the Celebrations, with the participation of all relevant government agencies. The meeting was told that a royal ceremony to celebrate the 60thbirthday anniversary of Her Royal Highness is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on 2 April.

On this occasion, His Majesty the King granted permission for the bringing of the Buddha image of the present reign (Phra Buddha Patima Chaiwat) and the Buddha image of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's Day of Birth to be enshrined at the royal throne, under the Nine-tiered White Umbrella of State inside the Amarindra Vinicchaya Throne Hall. Other components will also be prepared for the royal ceremony, when dignitaries will wear full dress uniforms.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will join hands with the Foundation of King Rama Nine, The Great, in holding a religious ceremony to give alms to 161 monks at 7:00 a.m. on 2 April at Sanam Luang ceremonial site. The Prime Minister will be invited to preside over the ceremony.

The Foundation of King Rama Nine, The Great, has been granted royal permission to hold activities to celebrate the 60thbirthday anniversary of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn between 30 March and 3 April 2015 at Sanam Luang. At 7:19 p.m. on 2 April, the Prime Minister, accompanied by his wife, will be invited to lead the candle-lit function as a tribute to the Princess. All provinces nationwide will present their ceremonial offerings at this event, as well.

The meeting assigned the National Identity Office to be responsible for producing documentation and historical records for this special occasion. In 2014, a total of 47 projects and activities were approved for the celebrations. The meeting was informed that another 347 projects and activities will be carried out in the next stage, while 468 are pendingapproval.

Thai embassies in various countries will join the celebrations by implementing about 100 projects. On Sunday, 5 April 2015, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will jointly organize the performance of a khon masked drama in Beijing, China. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will also attend this performance.

Thailand is holding year-long celebrations for the fifth-cycle, or 60th, birthday anniversary of the Princess from 1 January to 31 December 2015.
