The US Ambassador to Thailand, Mr. Michael George DeSombre, has hailed Thailand for its success in dealing effectively with the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The US Ambassador on 27 May 2020 paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam on the occasion of his assumption of office in Thailand.

The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the United States, in its newspapers and online media, for commending Thailands policy to control and prevent the COVIC-19 pandemic and for recognizing the country as one of the best countries to invest in.

On this occasion, both Thailand and the United States reaffirmed their intention to work closely together in order to strengthen their cooperation in various areas. The Ambassador hopes to promote a favorable investment atmosphere between Thailand and the United States, saying that Thailand has good potential and is one of the major economic partners of the US.

Meanwhile, Eric Topol, a US physician-scientist, author, and editor, stated that five countries deserve recognition for their exceptional success in containing COVID-19. The five countries include New Zealand, Iceland, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Thailand.

Speaking after meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to present World No Tobacco Day Awards 2020 to Thailand on 27 May, Dr. Daniel Kertesz, representative from the World Health Organization (WHO), gave encouragement to Thailand in its efforts to fight COVID-19. He said to ambassadors of various countries that Thailand was serious about dealing with the pandemic, with high standards in public health, and that the people gave good cooperation in the fight against the virus.

Mr. Anutin said that Thailand is ranked sixth among a total of 195 countries for the worlds strongest health security, and it comes first among Asian nations, according to a report from Johns Hopkins University.

He said that the Ministry of Public Health has worked devotedly to ensure health safety for Thailand and its people. Today, Thailand is able to contain COVID-19 at a satisfactory level.
