Prime Minister Gives Policy Briefing on Forest Fires in the North

Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has given a policy briefing on the tackling of forest fires and haze pollution in northern provinces.

The Prime Minister on 24 September 2020 took a field trip to Chiang Rai province and met governors of 17 northern provinces to follow up on the operations against forest fires and haze, as well as the problem concerning fine dust particles known as PM 2.5.

He told all northern provinces to work with local administrative organizations in reducing fuel in the areas vulnerable to forest fires and establishing forest fire surveillance spots to better handle the problem.

The Prime Minister suggested that the provinces adopt technological applications to combat forest fires. Provincial governors must also adopt the \"single command system to deal effectively with this problem in affected areas.

During his visit to Mae Yao subdistrict in Chiang Rai, he called on local residents to join hands in reforestation, as a way to improve air quality and the peoples quality of life. One of the most important directions is to enable humans to live in harmony with nature.

The Prime Minister also stressed the need for cooperation in preventing the spread of a second wave of COVID-19, especially along border areas.

He urged the people to be aware of the situation and comply with public health measures issued by the Ministry of Public Health, as well as preventing illegal entry into the country through border areas.
