Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that on 15 June 2025, Ambassador Prasas Prasasvinitchai, serving as Co-Chair of the Thailand-Cambodia Joint Boundary Commission on the Thai side, and H.E. Mr. Lam Chea, Minister in charge of the State Secretariat of Border Affairs and Co-Chair on the Cambodian side, had jointly chaired the Closing Session of the 6th Meeting of the Thai-Cambodian Joint Commission on Demarcation for Land Boundary (JBC) and signed agreed minutes in Phnom Penh.
The ministry noted that the discussions had proceeded smoothly in a cordial setting, with the Co-Chairs expressing mutual appreciation as the meeting concluded successfully. Officials indicated that both sides had reiterated the importance and efficiency of the JBC as a key bilateral mechanism to address border challenges. The meeting was described as another important milestone illustrating the progress of Thailand-Cambodia demarcation along the approximately 800-kilometer border and efforts to reduce border tensions.
According to the ministry, both sides agreed to continue discussions and joint implementation accordingly, with Thailand scheduled to host the next Special JBC meeting in September this year.
The ministry explained that Thailand and Cambodia currently maintain three levels of cooperation mechanisms on border issues. These were identified as: first, the JBC, which serves as a key bilateral framework to discuss technical and international law issues; second, the General Border Committee (GBC), described as a high-level bilateral mechanism on security with both Ministers of Defense serving as Co-Chairs to discuss ways to determine appropriate approaches and measures to promote cooperation, as well as maintain peace and security in the border areas of both countries; and third, the Regional Border Committee (RBC), characterized as a bilateral military mechanism to discuss local issues of management and development to address any border challenges, with both military Regional Commanders or their equivalent, serving as Co-Chairs.
