Thailand approves USD 14 M to host ASEAN's biggest sports events

Thailand is set to host the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games from 9 to 20 December 2025 in Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla, and the 13th ASEAN Para Games from 20 to 26 January 2026 in Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The Cabinet has approved a budget of 455.9 million baht (approximately 14 million US dollars) to hold these two major sporting events.

According to Tourism and Sports Minister Atthakorn Sirilatthayakorn, hosting the events will enhance the country’s reputation as a destination for international sports events, highlighting Thailand’s potential in sports, infrastructure, and service standards. The Minister also emphasized the cooperation between relevant agencies from both public and private sectors in implementing safety and security measures. The goal is to ensure that the 2025 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games are conducted smoothly and safely, and that they leave a lasting positive impression on all visitors.

Thailand is expected to generate over 5.28 billion baht (approximately 162 million US dollars) in revenue from hosting the SEA Games and the ASEAN Para Games.
