Rayong to Host Thailand Biennale 2027 Following Phuket Edition

Rayong Province has been selected to host Thailand Biennale 2027, following an evaluation by the Ministry of Culture through the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC). The province was chosen for its strong vision in balancing industrial development, environmental stewardship, and cultural expression.

Minister of Culture Sabeeda Thaised said Rayong stood out for its strong readiness, international event-hosting experience, and coordinated support from government bodies, local organizations, private sector partners, artists, and communities. The selection committee evaluated each province's strengths, spatial and cultural dynamics, and overall feasibility. Among the six candidate provinces, Rayong’s approach of integrating contemporary art with its industrial and environmental identity set it apart.

Rayong will take over hosting duties from Phuket, which is preparing to welcome visitors to Thailand Biennale, Phuket 2025, scheduled from 29 November 2025, to 30 April 2026. The 2025 edition spans three districts: Mueang Phuket, Kathu, and Thalang. Under the theme “Nirankalpa (Eternal)”, the event explores enduring love, impermanence, technological transformation, and the balance between life and nature. It will feature 65 artists from 25 countries along with 13 parallel and pavilion programs. The opening ceremony is set for 29 November 2025, at Saphan Hin.

Thailand Biennale 2027 will be the fifth edition of Thailand’s international contemporary art festival, inspired by Venice, Italy's Biennale model. Since its introduction in 2002, Thailand has hosted previous editions in Krabi (2018), Nakhon Ratchasima (2021), Chiang Rai (2023), and Phuket (2025).

The Minister highlighted that Thailand Biennale is an important platform for elevating the creative capacity of Thai contemporary artists on the global stage. The festival helps strengthen the creative economy, especially cultural tourism in Thailand’s designated art cities. It also supports the government’s “Thai Thai” cultural policy, transforms cultural assets into economic value, promotes sustainable local development, and enhances Thailand’s cultural presence internationally.
