Hat Yai is reviving its economy and tourism through Hat Yai New Year 2026, to be held under the theme "Ride the New Dawn" on 30–31 December 2025, symbolizing a new beginning after the floods and restoring confidence among the public, visitors, and the local private sector.
Recently, Mr. Narongporn Na Phatthalung, Mayor of Hat Yai Municipality, presided over a press conference to announce the city's readiness to host the event and support economic recovery. The Hat Yai District Chief said around 40% of businesses have reopened, with 70-80% readiness across accommodation, food, and services. Clean-up and rehabilitation in affected areas have been completed, and many restaurants, massage shops, and souvenir stores are now fully operational ahead of the New Year.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is promoting Hat Yai Countdown 2026 through its overseas offices, including Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, and Singapore, to attract regional visitors. Authorities also advise visitors to book accommodation directly with hotels to avoid additional charges, while room rates remain unchanged. The event is expected to generate approximately 500 million baht (around USD 14.5 million) and attract at least 50,000 visitors during 31 December 2025–4 January 2026.
Hat Yai Countdown 2026 Celebrations will feature cultural and entertainment activities such as traditional Khon masked dance performances, orchestral concerts, art shows, hands-on workshops, and local youth performances, along with nine "Check-in Happiness" photo spots across the city. The event will take place at Thammanoonvithi Road (Odean Intersection), Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, offering visitors a festive atmosphere and beautifully decorated city landmarks to welcome the New Year.
