Vietnam’s 2026 Lunar New Year holiday, known as Tet, will last nine days — from February 14 to 22 — under a plan approved by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Monday.
The holiday period runs from the 27th day of the last lunar month to the 6th day of the first lunar month. Civil servants and workers will have five official days off—one day before Tet and four days after—combined with four weekend days before and after the official break, making a total of nine days. Work will resume on February 23, the seventh day of the Lunar New Year.
The Prime Minister has instructed the Minister of Home Affairs to inform government agencies, businesses, and workers of the schedule. Relevant units are required to arrange on-duty staff to ensure continuous public services during the holiday.
Ministries and local authorities have also been directed to maintain stable supplies and prices of goods, support economic activities, and promote thrift and efficiency throughout the festive period.
Vietnam currently observes 11 official public holidays each year, fewer than the regional average. These include New Year’s Day (1 day), Lunar New Year (5 days), the Hung Kings’ Temple Festival (1 day), the April 30–May 1 holidays (2 days), and National Day (2 days).
Since 2021, the National Day holiday has been extended by one day, with the government choosing whether to observe September 1 or 3.
Foreign workers in Vietnam are also granted additional leave for their home country’s traditional holidays and National Day.
