With regard to recent media reports alleging that Thai forces used chemical weapons, Mr. Nikorndej Balankura, Director-General of Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has stated that Thailand strongly denies such baseless accusation.
Thailand remains fully committed to its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). Thailand’s position has been consistent: we condemn the use of chemical weapons anywhere, by anyone, under any circumstances. Thailand is also fully committed to all international instruments on disarmament and the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Since becoming a State Party in 2003, Thailand has demonstrated its strong commitment to the CWC through concrete actions and active collaboration with the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and other CWC States Parties.
This accusation once again is groundless and reflects a pattern of disinformation, aimed at distorting the facts on the ground and deliberately undermining Thailand’s credibility and standing in the international community.
