Thailand Cites Cambodia’s Agreement Violations, Vows Military Readiness Amid Border Tensions

Thailand's Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, presented Thailand's position on the ongoing border clashes a the press briefing on 29 July 2025 that the Thai government claimed Cambodia's violations of the Putrajaya agreement on 28 July 2025 forced Thailand to respond militarily to protect civilians. The government has lodged formal protests with the ASEAN Secretary-General, China, and the United States, citing Cambodia's "lack of honesty and sincerity."

All branches of Thailand's armed forces have been ordered to maintain full military readiness to safeguard national sovereignty and prevent territorial encroachment. Despite the military posturing, military commanders from both sides have met in accordance with existing agreements, with higher-level negotiations planned.

The government urged citizens to rely on official sources for information, warning against disinformation and "Cambodia's political tactics," particularly regarding evacuation procedures. The Acting Prime Minister also paid tribute to Thai soldiers defending the nation's sovereignty.
