The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) issued an announcement on 29 July 2025 prohibiting the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones, in areas deemed sensitive to national security during the ongoing Thai-Cambodian border tensions.
The announcement, effective immediately, is intended to prevent the use of drones that may create unrest, pose safety risks, or affect the operations of officials in key areas.
Such areas are located in the provinces of Chanthaburi, Trat, Buri Ram, Surin, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Sawan, Chai Nat, Phetchabun, Phichit, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Lop Buri, Si Sa Ket, and Ubon Ratchathani.
Operations of all types of drones are also banned within a nine-kilometer (five nautical mile) radius of any airports, or temporary landing sites. Violators will face imprisonment of up to one year, or a fine of up to 40,000 baht, or both.
