Thailand Plans Diplomatic Push to Counter "Information Warfare" as Border Evacuees Await Return After Cambodia Clashes

Thailand's Foreign Ministry advisor Chayika Wongnapachan announced plans for diplomatic outreach following recent border tensions with Cambodia, as displaced civilians in evacuation centers await word on returning home.

The return of evacuees depends on bilateral negotiations following the Thai-Cambodia General Border Committee (GBC) meeting scheduled for 4 August in Malaysia.

Thailand will also brief foreign ambassadors in Bangkok after taking the diplomatic corps on field visits on 1 August to demonstrate that Cambodia attacked civilian targets such as hospitals, schools and gas stations, forcing Thai forces to act in self-defense rather than aggression. In addition, Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa will hold online meetings with Thai diplomats worldwide to counter what officials call "distorted information campaigns."

"Although military attacks have stopped, information warfare through distorted news continues," Chayika said.

Chayika emphasized that "sustainable peace negotiations must be based on truth discussed openly at the table."
