The Cambodian soldiers detained by Thailand are classified as prisoners of war (POWs) under the Geneva Convention. This designation is not punitive but rather establishes their protected status under international law.
Thailand adheres to international POW care standards, ensuring that detainees receive prompt medical examinations and healthcare, along with adequate food, clean drinking water, and appropriate clothing. Thailand has already repatriated two Cambodian soldiers who were in poor health after providing them with necessary medical treatment. Currently, 18 surrendered Cambodian soldiers remain in custody and will be released and repatriated once the armed conflict concludes.
