A press release, issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand on 5 August 2025, denies the allegation that the Thai side is plotting to assassinate senior Cambodian officials, as follows:

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to refer to Cambodian news reports and a social media post by the Cambodian Minister of Information this morning containing the unfounded allegation that the Thai side is plotting to assassinate Senate President Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet, citing unnamed foreign intelligence sources. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs categorically denies this baseless allegation.

“It should also be emphasized that disseminating false news in the midst of key discussions currently ongoing under the General Border Committee (GBC) framework is not only unconstructive, but threatens to seriously undermine the positive spirit of these discussions, which are aimed at peacefully resolving the situation.”
