Thailand's Deputy Minister of Defence, General Nattaphon Narkphanit, provided information on the progress of the ongoing General Border Committee (GBC) meeting between Thailand and Cambodia during 4-7 August 2025. After the Thai GBC Secretariat and Cambodia met on the second day of the meeting, Thailand proposed eight conditions for the GBC talks while the Cambodian side did not propose many issues for negotiation.
The conditions proposed by Thailand were modified from the previous agreement, aiming to resolve the conflict and ensure peace between the two countries. Should Thailand’s proposals be accepted by the Cambodian GBC Secretariat, they will be put forward for the Defence Minister-level meeting on 7 August 2025.
However, if the Cambodian side partially accepts Thailand's proposals, the agreed conditions will be discussed in this meeting, while the unaccepted issues will be postponed to the next meeting. Any postponement of proposals must align with Thailand's intentions.
Any concerns such as Cambodia's ceasefire violations will be discussed in the upcoming meeting as well. Furthermore, participation from third-party countries as observers will ensure that if the Cambodian side violates any agreement, it will be condemned by the international community. However, Thailand will remain cautious and prepare for any incident.
The Deputy Minister of Defence also assured the public that the Thai delegation will not allow the country to be disadvantaged in this matter.
