Thai FM Instructs Diplomatic Mission to Counter Cambodia's Disinformation

Thailand's Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa has directed diplomatic missions worldwide to actively combat misinformation while expressing cautious optimism about a newly signed ceasefire agreement with Cambodia.

Speaking during a hybrid meeting with Thai ambassadors and consuls-general, the minister characterized the 13-point border agreement emerging from the recent General Border Committee talks as a "vital step forward" in resolving tensions along the disputed frontier.
He also acknowledged international assistance in brokering the deal, thanking Malaysia, the United States, and China for their diplomatic support during negotiations. He stressed that Thailand's commitment to diplomacy remains contingent on Cambodia's adherence to the ceasefire terms.

Central to Maris's message was an urgent call for diplomatic vigilance against what he described as Cambodia's historical pattern of spreading false information. The Foreign Minister specifically warned of disinformation campaigns targeting countries with substantial Cambodian populations, instructing embassies to monitor media platforms and respond swiftly to misleading narratives.

"We must use verified, fact-based communication to protect Thailand's credibility on the global stage," Maris emphasized, praising diplomatic missions for their ongoing efforts to defend Thailand's position internationally.

As evidence of Thailand's commitment to international humanitarian standards, the Foreign Minister highlighted the recent approval for International Committee of the Red Cross officials to visit 18 Cambodian prisoners of war, describing this as proof of Thailand's transparency and adherence to the law.

The minister concluded with measured hope that Cambodia would fully honor the ceasefire agreement, reaffirming Thailand's dedication to restoring constructive bilateral relations for regional stability within ASEAN.

The Foreign Ministry's backing of the Defence Ministry's border management efforts signals a coordinated government approach to the sensitive diplomatic situation.
