Governor of Surin Province Chamnan Chuenta on 10 August 2025 issued an announcement of the Surin Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command closing all temporary shelters in the province, following a ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia.
The announcement referred to the fighting that began on 24 July 2025 in Surin and caused widespread damage and displaced thousands of people. It quoted the Ad Hoc Center for the Thailand-Cambodia Border Situation stating key points in the ceasefire agreement, as follows:
1. Both sides agreed to a ceasefire involving all types of weapons, including attacks on civilians, civilian objects and military objectives of either side, in all cases and all areas;
2. Both sides agreed not to use any kind of forces against civilians and civilian objects in all circumstances.
Following the agreement, the Surin Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command considers that the border situation has eased. It has, therefore, instructed district and municipal authorities to close temporary shelters and return the facilities to their original owners or relevant government offices.
Responsible officials have also been told to strictly follow the 2025 Surin Provincial Civilian Evacuation Plan in Case of Aerial Threats and the Surin Provincial Border Security and Rear Area Protection Plan.
