Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has instructed the Chaipattana Foundation to construct “safety shelters” for two villages in Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, to protect local residents along the Thai-Cambodian border.
The instruction was given after Lt. Gen. Adul Boonthamcharoen, representing the Chaipattana Foundation, visited Ubon Ratchathani to present royally granted supplies to village defense volunteers on 8 August 2025.
It was reported that two villages in Nam Yuen District lacked protective structures, compelling local villagers to temporarily shelter in drainage pipes and under bridges during emergencies.
Upon learning of their hardship, Her Royal Highness on 9 August ordered the building of the safety shelters urgently to protect the local villages from potential threats.
On 10 August, the Chaipattana Foundation coordinated with local village defense volunteers concerning the construction project. Construction materials were sent to the sites, and local residents joined community leaders in building the shelters.
Each shelter was built from six precast square concrete box culverts, measuring 1.8 meters wide, 1.8 meters long, and 1 meter deep. It can accommodate between 50 and 60 people, providing safety refuge in case of an emergency or increased threat.
Construction of the safety shelters was completed on 11 August.
