Minister of Foreign Affairs Maris Sangiampongsa on 14 August 2025 attended an informal consultation “tea chat” among the foreign ministers of China, Cambodia, and Thailand, on the sidelines of the 10th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Anning, China, at the invitation of Mr. Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of China.
Foreign Minister Maris expressed Thailand's appreciation for China’s constructive role in supporting the peaceful resolution between Thailand and Cambodia through bilateral mechanisms, with the support of ASEAN, and the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire.
He also reiterated the urgent need for Thailand-Cambodia cooperation on demining along the border, as an important step for reducing tension and restoring normalcy to the border areas.
Mr. Maris thanked Foreign Minister Wang Yi for his support toward an agreement on this issue, which is expected to be discussed in the upcoming Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting. Another important issue agreed upon was the need to prevent misunderstanding and misinformation through social media.
Regarding the Thailand-Cambodia border situation. the foreign ministers of China and Thailand welcomed the positive outcomes of the recent Special Meeting on 28 July 2025 and the Extraordinary General Boundary Committee Meeting on 7 August 2025 in Malaysia, and the importance of effective implementation. They also agreed on the urgent need to advance demining efforts along the Thai-Cambodian border to reduce tension and rebuild trust.
