The First Army Area of the Royal Thai Army and the Cambodian Military Region 5 attended the Regional Border Committee (RBC) Meeting (Extraordinary Session) in Sa Kaeo Province on 22 August 2025.

The meeting was concluded successfully, with both parties agreeing to fully comply with the 13-point agreement reached during the recent General Border Committee (GBC) meeting.

In addition, further key issues were discussed to strengthen mutual understanding and provide more concrete solutions to problems affecting the people in both countries, as follows:

1. Both parties agreed to cooperate on humanitarian demining, with the matter to be further discussed at the next GBC meeting.

2. Both parties agreed to cooperate and coordinate in tackling transnational crime, especially call centers and scammers. The Cambodian Ministry of Interior will provide a platform for discussions with relevant Thai agencies. Both sides agreed to propose the issue for further discussion at the next GBC meeting.

3. Both sides agreed to establish mechanisms for problem-solving by establishing a Coordinating Group (CG) and Township Border Committee (TBC) to serve as supporting mechanisms under the RBC framework for resolving local-level issues.

4. On the issue of violations of the 2000 MOU, the Cambodian side requested that alternative mechanisms be used for discussion, since it is outside the authority of the RBC. Nevertheless, The Thai side reaffirmed its position by informing Cambodia that the area under the responsibility of the committee is an important area, and clearly expressed Thailand’s intention to resolve matters of concern.

The outcomes of this meeting reflect the determination of both countries to work together in maintaining peace and order along the border, contributing to stability and security for the people of both nations, and in line with the outcomes of the Extraordinary GBC Meeting, held on 7 August 2025.
