Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow addressed the Thailand–Cambodia border situation in his keynote address at the closing ceremony of the ASEAN for the Peoples Conference in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 5 October 2025.
The issue is a challenge that directly affects people on both sides. In this regard, Cambodia was urged to pursue dialogue and cooperation with Thailand toward peaceful solutions.
The Foreign Minister said, “We all know from the Thai-Cambodian situation that it is the ordinary citizens, especially those living along the borders, who suffer the most when disputes escalate. Ironically, they are also the ones who often live together most peacefully, with deep ties of kinship, culture, and trade crossing the border every day.
“That is why we must approach such disputes with wisdom and restraint, focusing on dialogue and people-to-people cooperation.
“It is in the interest of our two peoples, and our youths who hold the future, for our countries to choose dialogue and peace. We hope the Cambodian side will join us in this pursuit, for the alternative would only bring further conflicts and losses for both sides.”
