The Government is accelerating efforts to stimulate tourism and push it as part of the national agenda, so that the country’s tourism will continue to grow and serve as a key engine to move the Thai economy forward.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra chaired a meeting to monitor the tourism situation on 30 May 2025, when she instructed all relevant agencies to deal effectively with tourism problems covering five measures, aimed at strengthening Thailand’s tourism and service sectors and facilitating the travels of both Thai and international tourists.
The first measure seeks to step up public relations campaigns and promote a favorable image of Thailand to make it better known and attract more tourist arrivals. Fake and distorted news about the image of the country must be rectified, while accurate information must be provided in both conventional and social media.
In the second measure, safety and security must be enhanced in all dimensions. For instance, closed-circuit television cameras must be installed at tourist sites and influential persons who monopolize tourism services must be suppressed.
The third measure involves improvements in tourism services, such as immigration, public transport at airports to protect tourists from being cheated and overcharged, and the provision of designated smoking areas for transit passengers.
The fourth measure seeks to develop tourism infrastructure, especially the enforcement of setting airfare ceilings for low-cost airlines, the construction of mass transit infrastructure, and the linking of Krabi, Phang-nga, and Phuket airports.
The fifth measure seeks to carry out various activities to boost tourism and attract visitors all year round. Information and research should also be developed concerning tourist behavior for use in tourism planning in response to tourism demand.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn said that the Government had allocated a budget to support the tourism sector, under the 157-billion-baht economic stimulus plan approved recently by the Cabinet. Although the number of tourists has seen a slight drop, the national revenue from tourism was on the rise, because of an increase in the number of high-end visitors from Europe and North America.
