Srettha receives royal approval to become Thailand's 30th prime minister

A spokesperson for the house speaker revealed that Srettha Thavisin, a representative of Thailand's Pheu Thai party, had already gained royal assent. The uncertainty following the election ended when he won backing from the parliament to become Thailand's new prime minister. Following talks and negotiations over the law, 482 of the 727 present MPs voted to confirm his triumph. Srettha, a political newcomer, will serve as the prime minister of a coalition made up of 11 parties.
